Things to do

Perth and its surrounds provide an incredible backdrop to a diverse range of festivals and activities throughout the year. They are easy to access and also relatively affordable, with many free of charge. Check out the i-Walk City of Perth Trails.

The regional areas of Western Australia also offer unique experiences for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts.

There's plenty to do… you just need to know where to find it!

Fashion WA website launches
Sick of seeing designers, models and friends packing their bags and heading east for supposedly greener pastures, Perth lasses Jacqui Brown and Chelsey Wayte hatched an idea to create Fashion WA - a site dedicated to showcasing and supporting the fashion industry in Western Australia. The website includes an online store, designer profile section, features, news and event coverage. W: www.fashionwa.com

King Street
Perth city

Bally, Gucci, Kailis, Linneys, Louis Vuitton, Periscope, Tarvydas, Tiffany & Co, Wasteland, Wheels & Dollababy, Zekka

King Street is the grand old dame of upmarket shopping in Perth. Its leafy European-style cobbled streets and cafes have attracted national and international designers willing to spend a fortune on expensive shop fit-outs for the ultimate shopping experience.

If you have the money, this compact millionaire’s row is where you will want to start spending or at least converting luxury items from evening gowns and pearls to stilettos and handbags.

Wesley Quarter
Perth city

Alannah Hill, Burberry, Emporio Armani, Jan Logan, Karen Millen, Metalicus, Review

The Wesley Quarter is being billed as a new luxury fashion destination to complement nearby King Street and after snagging Emporio Armani and Burberry, it is no wonder why.

The Burberry store is the biggest the label has opened in Australia.

The Quarter’s clearly upmarket retailers offer a lot of choice in a beautifully redeveloped historical precinct. Bigger is clearly better here and more is definitely more.

William Street
Perth city

Brave New World, Harry Highpants, Lala Orange, The Butcher Shop, William Topp

Young and funky independent fashion retailers and designers are scattered up and down the Northbridge end of William Street.

Think vintage, artsy and fashion on the fringes – that’s the way the area is promoting itself thanks to The William Street Collective which is working hard to build the strip’s reputation.

A $6 million redevelopment by the East Perth Redevelopment Authority has started and aims to attract more local talent to rival Beaufort Street and Leederville.

ENEX100
Perth city

French Connection, Guess
Hardy Brothers, Marcs, Mimco, Napoleon Perdis, Veronika Maine, Witchery

Workers in the inner city can breathe a sigh of relief – St George’s Terrace is no longer a retail therapy black hole.

Enex100 is all about modern urban shopping, from its funky food podium to its impressive range of retailers. It is sleek and spacious and its three levels cater for almost everyone.

It blends city worker essentials including a supermarket and chemist with medium and high-end fashion retailers and art creating a mall with a gallery feel.

Leederville

Atlas, Black Plastic, Divine, Harry & Gretel, Oxford Books, Remedy, Unlson, Urban Record, Wild Lily Empire, Yo-Yo Buffalo

For funky students and inner-city hipsters, Leederville is compact but stuffed full of variety.

From Rockabilly style to floaty dresses, here you’ll pick up the quirky items you won’t find in the department stores… and all at a reasonable price.

Subiaco

Belle Bijoux, Cube, Dimario, Empire Rose, Emporio, Lisa Ho, Merge, Saba

Subiaco is the original yummy mummy shopping heaven.

The Colonnade is a mix of high-end designers and trendy chain shops and “Subi” is the place where plenty of Australian designers have chosen to establish their flagship stores.

Claremont

Adam Heath, Ae’lkemi, Anna Thomas, Bettina Liano, Leona Edmiston, One Teaspoon, Scanlan and Theodore, Sous Bodywear, Wayne Cooper

With the Claremont Quarter and Times Square developments, Claremont is getting bigger and better with high-end labels mixed with mid-price options.

Stage two was completed in early 2011 with more fashion and homewares retailers, including David Jones.

Beaufort Street
Mt Lawley

Behind the Monkey, Billie & Rose, Bridget Black, Department, Highs and Lows, Mimco, Planet Books, Ruck Rover, Slaghterblouse, Witchery

From vintage and op shops at the Inglewood end, through to labels and Indi designers at the other, Beaufort Street is a clever mix of vintage, edgy fashion and art student chic.

The strip is going from strength as more retailers move in.

Fremantle

Ashe, Fi & Co, Hustle, Lick Clothing, Love in Tokyo, Morrison, New Edition, Subway DC

Fremantle is the spiritual home of quirky bo-ho fashion.

Although in recent years it has lost some of its destination status, it is still a nice day out shopping and soaking up the port city’s famous café culture and backstreets.
