  Study abroad and student exchange

Hundreds of international students travel to Perth on study abroad and student exchange programs each year to get a quality education and experience the unique Western Australian lifestyle.

Your choice of study abroad or student exchange depends on whether your home institution has a formal exchange agreement with a Western Australian university.

Both study abroad and student exchange programs involve one or two semesters of full-time study, and are offered at all five Western Australian universities:

  Study abroad

If there’s no agreement between your institution and a Western Australian university, you can participate in a study abroad program. This means that:

  • You’ll need to take leave from your current institution

  • You’ll be required to pay your Australian tuition fees before you start your studies

  • You’ll need to check with your institution advisor whether the subjects you study in Western Australia will be recognised by your home institution

  Student exchange

If your home institution has an agreement with a Western Australian university, then you can participate in a student exchange program. In this case:

  • You can continue your enrolment at your home institution while you’re studying in Western Australia

  • You don’t need to pay fees to the university in Western Australia – you just continue to pay your home institution's tuition fees

  • Your student exchange coordinator will need to nominate you and approve your participation in the exchange program

  • You’ll usually receive credit for the subjects you study in Western Australia

Hi! My name is Clara Reyes Mora.

I’m from Bogota in Colombia and I’m studying Design in Perth, Western Australia.

I’d always wanted to study overseas - especially to improve my English. I did some research and found out that I could do my Masters in Design in Perth.

Perth is very different from Bogota. First, the weather is beautiful here.

The facilities are good, the public transport is very modern and the shopping is great.

During the holidays I have travelled through Western Australia.

I have been to Margaret River, which is famous for its wine and surf, to Lancelin and the Pinnacles.
